The General Assembly 2026 accepted changed breeding and registration rules for Bombay as per 01.07.2026.
These rules – laid down in § 7.2 of the Breeding & Registration Rules – are now as follows:
Bombay (BOM) is a solid black cat. No other colour nor any pattern shall be recognised by the FIFe.
Permitted outcross: Burmese brown (BUR n) and American Shorthair black (AMS non n).
All outcross breeding and registration of kittens must follow Breeding & Registration Rules § 9.1.
When breeding Bombay:
- All cats used in breeding BOM must have a DNA-test for Burmese Head Defect (BHD), unless both parents are proven to be free from BHD
- These breeding principles are to be followed:
- BHD-free x BHD-free
- BHD-free x BHD-carrier
- Test results must be registered and published in accordance with Breeding & Registration Rules § 3.5.1
- The breeder must inform buyers of Bombay cats about the BHD-disease and the registration policy, when selling a BHD-carrier.
